Lola went swimming with her friend at American Club on Thursday, enjoyed lunch poolside there, and then had a swimming lesson with her amazing coach, Frankie, in the afternoon.
I am still in awe how her coach manages to improve Lola's swimming every week. She took a little girl who was terrified of putting her head under water and has helped transform her to one who eagerly dives to the bottom of the pool to look for sinkies. The swimming coach relationship (but probably any coach) seems so personal - it depends on Lola trusting and liking her, feeling just comfortable enough to have fun, but still being pushed enough to keep trying new moves and making progress.
The club is so lush and tranquil during the week. Lola tried to turn some cartwheels on the lawn. Her version of cartwheels, anyway.
On Friday Lola had an informal meet-up with some of her classmates at Sun Yat Sen Park. This remains my favorite park in Hong Kong and coming back here never ceases to remind me of the first two years of Lola's life when we walked here constantly. What an amazing neighborhood Sai Ying Pun is.
After playing on the playground, chasing bubbles, playing tag and soccer and enjoying a picnic feast under the trees, Lola and I left around noon. We took the tram all the way to Admiralty, where auntie Lyn and Lola dropped me off at work and they headed home on the big bus.
In the afternoon, Lola went to get her passport picture (her US passport is up for renewal, I can't believe it!!) and then headed to the Cricket Club for her usual tennis lesson.
The boys have been having less activities because they are not on fall break and so are going to class as usual, but on Friday afternoon they had a thoroughly enjoyable time playing on the podium and playground of neighboring Bamboo Grove.
