Kowloon Walled City and Cramped Living Conditions

Isn't this fascinating?  I wonder what it was like living in the walled city.  It's hard to imagine a walled off, completely lawless ghetto like this existing in today's Hong Kong.

However, that's not to say that the problems of cramped quarters and inhumane living conditions have ceased to exist.  The NY Times just recently ran this article on their front page.  With people routinely living in flats that cost over HK100,000 a month here, this just puts into stark focus the wealth gap that exists in Hong Kong.
