Just like last year, we celebrated Christmas in a part of the world where pine trees were naught to be found. Last year we used a palm tree; this year we decided to create our own "banana tree".
In order to fully delve into the Christmas spirit (and just for a gratuitous packing challenge), we brought our Christmas presents to Sri Lanka with us. Thankfully, all of the presents came in handy on the trip, as we started using them after we opened them!
Michael's presents to me were all very thoughtful, needed, and centered around a theme of "bags and travel", including a camera bag for my new Nikon D3300, which I had been wrapping in a scarf/bubble wrap when not wearing around my neck, a laptop bag, to help replace the Marimeko one that Michael's sister had previously given to me for Christmas (which I had used faithfully and lovingly until it broke this past fall), a Herschels backpack, in a special Liberty floral print (how fitting), which at first I felt a little uncertain about, but which after using as a safari bag and as a whale watching bag and now for trips to the gym, I love, and, finally, hiking shoes from Columbia, in anticipation of our next grand adventure!
I got him the softest Peruvian pima cotton t shirts from Grana, a bartender set (replete with cocktail shaker, measuring spoon, jigger, strainer, muddler and a few other small items), a cocktail recipe book, and Bombay Sapphire gin, Campari, and sweet red vermouth so that he could mix his (current) favorite drink, the Negroni.
