I hope everyone had a very lovely holidays and happy new year. (I'm quite wary of new year's eve, but it's hard not to feel optimistic about a whole new year, right?) Thanks to everyone who sent us holiday cards and pictures and email updates with your much-savored news. It's hard to keep in touch when we're so far from everyone, so it's really nice to see updates and hear that everyone is doing so well.
We had a wonderful vacation and it reminded me all over again how much I love to travel and see/try new things. I feel so lucky that we had the opportunity to do all of this stuff. It also reminded me of how exhausting travel can be* -- and that sometimes the best part of going away is coming home.
Rest assured that pictures from our whirlwind trip will come (in segments) shortly.
In the meantime, here is a picture of the cabin that we rented in Ruka and the perfect Christmas tree (my first real one!). The cabin was a bona fide log cabin that had heated floors, a sauna, and pretty much everything we wanted or needed- a tree stand? It appeared. Ornaments? Found them. Ditto for the walkie-talkies, ice-fishing poles, binoculars, tree skirt, frying pans and extra coffee. Amazing.
What a welcome beacon of light. Note the heating cable for the car. Very important to plug in the car! |
So warm, cozy and bright - and yes, with a strand of Finland pride. |
