Lola is Ten Months!

Our beautiful adorable amazing awesome wonderful treasure of a baby is 10 months!  I cannot believe it.  I was thinking about it yesterday and reeling from the thought that she is a mere 2 months from her very first birthday.  Oh my gosh, Lola, I love you so, my heart squeezes at the thought of how quickly you are growing up and changing every day.

Lola is now able to stand very easily and readily, in her crib and next to the sofa, the bookshelf, the tv stand... even a heavy door that doesn't easily push open is enough support for her to get herself up onto her two little feet.

Michael and I went to the park yesterday to hang out and clown around with Lola.  She spent most of the time playing with her dad's watch, fiddling with his shoelaces, clamoring all over him, and trying to drink his coffee... so, generally crawling around being a cute and fun maniac, as per usual.  We skipped the 10 month sticker this time - there's no way Lola would allow that to stay on her dress anyway!
Bored of all of her toys already

Lola is very sweet and generally a very happy kid.  She takes great delight in sharing (maybe because we applaud and cheer whenever she shares), flashing one of her huge grins with all of her teeth bared when she does so.   She is really beginning to understand a lot of stuff we say in Mandarin, like when we ask for her to give us something, or tell her to wash her hands, or explain that there's no more food left, or ask her if she wants to go out.  The cutest is when she extends the object, whatever it may be (watch, food, toy) towards one of us requesting it, and then at the last minute pulls it back because she just can't bear to give it up.

Michael's shoelaces were just too alluring, causing Lola to shriek with happiness
Distracted by the plastic bags
And then distracted by the grass and dirt

We have been trying for a while now to get her to say "ba ba," or "da da" or "pa pa," but except for one very clear and notable instance during bath time when she shouted "BA!" her only words so far are still "ma ma."  It's already pretty incredible that she has words already, and that she speaks them so clearly (in one particular instance looking straight at me as I walked by she said "ma ma" very distinctly), but I know Michael is wishing and hoping and anticipating fervently for the day that she calls him dad.

Otherwise, things are progressing par for the course here.  Lola is sleeping much better recently (I wince as I type this for fear of jinxing it) - she has been going down for the night around 6:30 or so, sometimes even earlier at 5:30, and while she still wakes up once a night, around 4 or 5 am, for milk, she generally goes right back to sleep and wakes up again around 7.   It has been pretty amazing.  We have also been trying to train her to fall asleep without one of us present, or holding or rocking her.  She for the most part now likes to be put down in her crib with her pacifier and her soft Jellycat bunny, and will slowly soothe herself to sleep.  If you had asked me even a month ago, I would have said I never thought it would happen!  Now I can only feel so grateful as I slip out her door at night.  The next challenge (which I predict will be at difficulty levels of epic proportions) will be to wean her off of her beloved pacifier.  As it is, we are pretty worried about how crooked her teeth are.  I am not sure if the pacifier is causing any of these troubles.

Since Italy, Lola has shown a marked interest in dogs.  She has always loved birds, but now she stares at dogs and even tries to reach out to them.  The size of the dog has no impact on her.  I've set up a playdate with her next weekend where there will be a huge (but gentle) dog, and I'm excited to see how she enjoys it.

Otherwise, Lola now goes to playgroups four times a week, at two different schools, to try to meet more little kids and get exposure to different kinds of playstyles and facilities.  It's also my attempt at keeping her busy and occupied and social so that she gets enough stimulation during the day and sleeps well at night.

Finally, Lola stays true to her love of all things she isn't supposed to touch or eat: electrical wires, cords, TV and iPads, phones (did I mention that she has managed to wipe her dad's iPad and phone?!), air conditioner remote controls, calculators, and laptops... and she remains absolutely fascinated by the new.  She tires of her toys quickly and is always fascinated by anything she hasn't seen or experienced before.  She is clearly a little adventurer.

Ah, little one, how we love you!
