Last night we went to dinner at Tung Po, a local style dai pai dong in North Point that is of the indoor food hall mess variety. Basically, we approached this rather shady concrete-block like building:
The largely empty first floor contained the wet market for fruits and vegetables, meat and seafood. We continued to the second floor, and suddenly, voila! beyond a sliding glass door, heard a roar of noise. We proceeded to walk past very large and loud groups of people all sitting at various tables for various dai pai dongs:
And then we ate a lot of food and drank a lot of beer!
Acorn squash and various wood fungus and squash |
Spicy but oh so good crab |
Most delicious chicken. |
Squid ink pasta and squid. Very inky. |
Mantis shrimp. Sounds scary right? |
It was a fun and rowdy atmosphere. I didn't take pictures of the chicken lotus leaf rice, or the pork knuckles...
