Love is not necessarily buying the Ikea toy kitchen with all the pots and pans and cups and serving utensils and fake food and vegetables.
But love is definitely, definitely, staying up until 3 am after you have both been working a very, very long couple of days, to figure out how to put said toy kitchen together, so that your daughter will have a surprise in the morning when she wakes up.
Michael and I took a little bit of time on a random night about a month back to put this together for Lola. It actually ended up being a pretty enjoyable exercise because we were keeping each other company and that made it all go faster. Plus we were excited just thinking about how Lola would react when she saw it the next morning. And yes, I am labeling this post "date night" because hey, it counted. Kind of. If you can have fun while assembling Ikea together...
So far Lola seems to really like it, especially stepping up on her stool to cook her soup or fry her vegetables, or pressing the buttons to turn on the stove and shouting "hot! hot!" or "washing" her fruits and vegetables (or her hands, or her coins, or her stuffed animals, or really a whole myriad list of things) in the sink.
She is still a bit small for it, in that she struggles to open the cabinet doors by herself (the magnets are strong) and can't quite reach the microwave door fully. But I like watching her putter away in it like she is really busy and doing stuff. I also like how she treats the cabinets like her special place to store her special items, like Michael's watch or a necklace chain or one of her stickers.
