Lola is 5 months today!
I can't believe it. She is really active now and every day brings a new development of some sort. Her recent thing is to squeal in a very high pitch out of excitement or happiness. Sometimes she coughs and we think it's because she's so excited with her chortling and trying to speak that saliva gets stuck in her throat.
She has started to be able to scoot across her playmat (whether she actually makes any progress remains to be seen), but at least she has the right idea by lifting up her butt and trying to push herself forward from her knees. She exerts a lot of effort to do this and by the time she's been at it for a few minutes, she has usually worked up a huge sweat. 9 out of 10 times this causes her a lot of frustration and we have to take a break.
She remains extremely alert and curious about the world around her - so much so that the biggest struggle as of late has been to get her to eat properly and to take her naps. Most of Lola's meltdowns nowadays come about because she is hangry from not eating and sleeping and increasingly doesn't know what to do with herself.
She also recently started to have a bit of an aversion to her room and particularly her crib in the evenings - she knows that that means bedtime and all she wants to do is go outside and play. My best chance at getting her to fall asleep at such times is to hold her right by the balcony door in our living room, where she can look out at the buildings and the playground and slowly be lulled to sleep.
She has had bananas, carrots and apples so far and apples are by far her favorite. She could not gulp down the puree fast enough! At one point she had dug both of her hands into the spoon and was sucking the juices from her fingers, and at another point she reached out both hands for the bowl, impatient to get more all at once. Green peas and beetroot are up next, and somehow I don't think she will be as receptive to those purees...
