One of the greatest things about Hanoi is the people's enthusiastic use of public space. The sidewalks, the streets, and especially the parks, feel so communal. Strangers and friends of all ages use these spaces liberally and, in doing so, interact and connect with each other in a way that seems quickly disappearing in our technology-driven world.
Basically, everyone comes out to socialize at night!
We saw some fathers and sons playing badminton on the marked sidewalk outside of our hotel:
Then there were a LOT of little kids rollerblading in the park while their parents watched and mingled:
Rows and rows of little stools and tables line the sidewalks of this city at night, where everyone just hangs out, adroitly cracking sunflower seeds and sipping refreshing, delicious plum juice:
